Call Me (feat. Mason Rice), was created in a piecemeal fashion due to COVID quarantine restrictions. This track marks the first time our group has recorded a track remotely and in isolation from one another. Certain sounds and instruments were specifically chosen to give the song a “phone call feel.” Call Me, comes at a time where we all desire a little more human interaction; right now, picking up the phone might be the best way.

Alone with You, on its face, is about the struggle of feeling alone. This feeling, sometimes surprisingly, can come while in the company of our loved ones. This songs explores the emotions and complexity of the problem we sometimes can’t put into words. Come, listen, and explore the dichotomy of wanting isolation and adoration, of wanting independence and autonomy, and of wanting to be alone with/without someone.

In listening to this album, you will gain a better insight into how The Guest Room has evolved over the last couple of years. From the way they perform to the way they write, almost nothing has stayed the same since their inception. Wiwaxia indirectly tells the story of this growth and evolution and hints at where The Guest Room will venture next. From beginning to end, the theme of raw and originalist stylings should be ever present, and coax the listener into understanding the origin story of this upcoming group.

At a time where so much of the future is questionable, Goodbye For Now seeks to ameliorate the anxiety of the unknown, while celebrating the excitement of moving on to something new. New journeys may be terrifying in their uncertainty, be almost always rewarding in their outcome. The listener should sense the prevalence of the theme of optimism as they start their journey in the new 2020 year!

Simply put, this song is about a Bad Day. Its morose, yet hopeful themes, are meant to portray the dichotomy of our personal experiences with bad days. The perfect example of this juxtaposition is during the breakdown towards the end of the song. The song breaks into rhythmic ambiguity that continues to get faster until ending with a brighter theme. You can't truly understand happiness if you don't have a bad day once in a while.

Try

BY THE GUEST ROOM

Try is about the conflict of self. The song is specifically about a girl who tries to overcome her insecurities and doubts to ultimately be her “real” self, the self that is desired, yet hidden from everyone else.

But in all, this is a song for anyone who has struggled with their identity and has felt in any way misunderstood. The song’s upbeat energy  is supposed to hopefully encourage listeners not to dwell on the negative thoughts and voices within them and around them, but to embrace everything that makes them who they are (good and bad) and to try to break the barriers that silence them.

All for You

BY THE GUEST ROOM

All for You is a song about admiring a person and being there for them no matter the circumstance. It is about noticing the light and life within someone you care for, and being their place of refuge when they are lost or alone. This song is also about the selfless act of love and how it may sometimes require you to let a person go if timing is not right.

Along the Road

BY THE GUEST ROOM

Along the Road, in contrast to Try and All for You, reveals much of the song’s meaning explicitly in its lyrics. This song was inspired by time on the road. When you are driving it is easy to focus on your end destination and take for granted the people and places along the way. This song is an encouragement to all travelers to get out and learn about the world around them and the journey that they are on. The people and places we encounter while on our journeys are all vital aspects of our lived realities that make us who we are.

All in all, this song is about taking time to appreciate the stories and cultures of others throughout your life’s journey.
